The monitoring of museums through distributed smart systems is becoming more and more effective thanks to the rapid advances of non-invasive and low-cost technological solutions. In this paper, a museum monitoring system based on the wireless sensor network technology is presented as a backbone that enables innovative and heterogeneous services, mainly dedicated to support the decision-making processes of museum curators and managers. A selected set of experimental results are here presented and discussed in order to show the advantages and limitations of the proposed architecture.
