About the role:
As a Full-Stack Developer for the Museum, you will work with the Senior Web Developer to build and iterate on features of whitney.org, fix bugs, and carry out other maintenance. We are looking for someone with significant experience with Ruby on Rails, modern frontend development, and an interest in modern and contemporary art. Whitney.org powers a variety of products including the online collection, digital signage, and audio guide experience, and is supported by a very small team. Success in this role will require someone who is comfortable traversing all parts of our stack, with strong communication skills.
- B.A./B.S. in computer science or equivalent
- 5+ years of professional web development experience, ideally building full-stack applications and content management systems
- Strong client-facing communication and project management skills; strong ability to manage personal time and tasks
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong familiarity with accessible web design, including W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 and Section 508
- Ability to work independently
- Ruby on Rails
- Docker and Docker Compose
- CI/CD pipelines
- Linux server administration
- Git & GitHub
Desired experience, but not required:
- BEM methodology
- Familiarity with structured data standards like JSON-LD and IIIF
- Knowledge and interest in 20th and 21st century American and contemporary art
- Fixed compensation of $105,000 per annum
