The Phillips Collection is actively recruiting for several Phillips Educators to join the Education department. Phillips Educators (PEs) are essential to facilitating the museum’s tours and programs. As key members of the Education Department, PEs help museum visitors see, connect, and engage with art in new and unexpected ways. PEs are trained in student‐centered approaches and empower visitors to express themselves and their values, opinions, and thoughts. Phillips Educators work with Education staff to facilitate school and adult tours. Additionally, they will support select programs that reach family, community, and public programs.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate interactive tours for a variety of audiences, including Pre-K-12 and university students, adults, and families.
  • In addition to public and private group tours, PEs can help facilitate extended school partnerships, Member Mornings, Art & Wellness programs, teacher professional development, family programs, Creative Aging, and other community and public programs
  • Other opportunities will be available to assist with Education, Community Engagement, Special Events, Development, and other departments’ programs

Qualifications

  • Excellent public speaking, facilitation, and verbal communications skills
  • Teaching experience in any setting
  • Adaptable, independent, and collaborative
  • Comfortable working with young children, older students, university, adult, or older adults

PEs do not necessarily need to be proficient working with all audiences and all types of programs. PEs will have the option to sign up for different types of tours and programs, based on their and the Education Department’s needs, abilities, interests, and schedules. Rather, flexibility and an eagerness to learn is pivotal to success in this role.

 

Schedule

The schedule is flexible and is based on the availability of each PE. PEs must lead at least one tour a month and attend a majority of trainings. Most programs are in-person at the museum, with some opportunities at Phillips@THEARC, in DC area schools, and virtually. Trainings occur both in-person and virtually.
